Search. Newbiggin near Ulverston, Cumbria. The
Teams SARDA Dog Handler & search dog, Moss, were involved in a search when a man
had entered the sea at Newbiggin near Ulverston.
7. 29th November. RTA.
12:00 Hrs. Jnct, A59 & A5209, Burscough. A Team
member in one of our 4 x 4 Landrovers witnessed a road traffic accident. One
casualty was transported to Ormskirk General Hospital for examination in the

Search. 11:05 Hrs. Rivington Pike Area. Bolton
MRT requested the Team to "standby". They were searching for a 15-year-old male.
However, the Team was stood down at 13:45 Hrs and not used.
5. 27th May. Local
Incident. River Ribble, Frenchwood, Preston.
While providing safety cover for the annual Ribble Raft Race a competitor
slipped on the steep river banking and sustained a fractured femur (thigh). Pain
killing drugs administered to the casualty who was evacuated to a waiting
ambulance. 10 Team members assisting with this incident. (5 rescue Person Hours)
4. 26th May.
Spot-Pick-up. 19:30 Hrs. Smelt Mill, Trough of Bowland.
Two cyclists collided with each other outside the Cottages
at Smelt Mill. Both rolled down a steep grassy slope. One sustained hand, elbow
and leg injuries whilst the other was uninjured. Two Team members at the cottage
treating the injured cyclist.
3. 7th April. Search.
21:30 Hrs. Langden Valley, Trough of Bowland.
Search of Bowland Fells for a 6 year old boy who had become separated from his
father while on a mountain bike ride over the Fells. Search continued overnight
and the boy was found by members of Bolton MRT at approximately 09.00 Hrs the
following morning in Black Clough near Langden Castle. The boy stated he had
fallen asleep in the bracken only to be woken by the attending RAF Sea King
helicopter flying low overhead whilst deploying the search team that eventually
found him. Additional teams brought into assist: Bolton, Calder Valley, Holme
Valley, Rossendale, RAF Leeming, RAF Stafford, 7 SARDA Search Dogs and local
volunteers including farmers, game keepers and beaters. (600 Rescue Person
2. 28th February. Body
Recover. 19:30 Hrs. Longton Marsh, River Ribble.
Body of a male, age 20-25, found on Longton Marsh in the afternoon of by farmer.
The body was reported to be 3 miles out on the marsh and after a recce by the
Police it was decided they had no means of evacuation over that distance, with
the very difficult terrain. The Team were requested that same evening but a
check on the time and height of the tide ruled out a carry off that day. At
first light the following day the Team located the body after a small search in
misty conditions and the body was recovered. It was later discovered that the
body was that of the 18 year old missing from Clitheroe that we had searched for
on the 29th December 1990. See incident 17/1990. (45 Rescue Person Hours)
1. 26th February.
Search. 10:55 Hrs. Whittingham, Goosnargh near Preston.
Search for a male, aged 79, missing from Whittingham Hospital since the previous
day. Police requested the Team to search the grounds and surrounding countryside
for this person who suffered from epilepsy. The Team was called out, but at
11.45 Hrs we were stood down before commencing searching when the missing person
was located in the grounds by hospital staff. (20 Rescue Person Hours)
