Sunday 24th September 2023, the rescue Team were providing fell & rescue cover
Once again, our Mountain Rescue Team provided on the fell communication and first aid cover which is staged in the Yorkshire Dales national Park. Based out of Helwith Bridge. It is said it is the toughest and biggest Cyclo-Cross event in the UK!
This year, 33 volunteers of Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team attended the race, which provided some interesting and diverse incidents this year, a fractured collar bone, an open compound lower leg fracture and a minor head with a groin injury. On the field base camp we treated various minor injuries, but these included a serious deep laceration of the knee and a ride with mild Hypothermia, both were recommended to seek further medical attention.
We must also remember, although we were out of our normal operational area, we still provided rescue cover back in Lancashire with a small response team, and this was tested late on in the day when we were requested to attend to an incident in the Fairy Glen area near Appley Bridge (Incident 043/2023).
We hope all the riders from the 3 Peaks Cyclo Cross enjoyed their day and wish all our casualties a healthy and speedy recovery.
