Incident 051/2024
The rescue Team were contacted by Lancashire Police at 19.30hrs on Saturday 14th December 2024 to investigate a report of missing persons in the Abbeystead estate around Tower Lodge area, with a report of a SOS activation from a phone.
The weather was reported as bleak, cold and wet with fog reducing visibility to as little as 10 metres in places.
2 senior Team members deployed into the Abbeystead estate with the rescue Team remaining on standby to carry out initial investigations alongside our Police and Fire Service partners. With a report that the missing persons were on steep ground but lost, an immediate search area was established and searched. However, after 2 hours there was no evidence that anyone was in the area that required assistance. With our Team leader in consistent liaison with Police we were stood down when it was determined that intelligence or information could be provided to deploy, decision made to stand down.
Resources attending included volunteers of Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue, LFRS including their Drone, Local Police and Game Keepers were all involved. HMGC and the Police helicopter were requested however, with the cloud base so low they were unable to deploy.
