Incident 035/2022

The rescue Team were contacted by the North West Ambulance Service just after 13.30 hrs on Thursday 25th August 2022 for a fallen and injured mountain biker in Gisburn Forest.

Team members were quickly on scene at the Hope Line and assessed the situation where it was determined the injured biker had damaged his arm and wrists, and potentially his spine. Support was quickly available with the North West Air Ambulance Service Paramedics and our casualty was treated for his injuries, we also used a blizzard blanket and he was placed inside our mountain rescue casualty bag. With the help of the Air Ambulance crew and our colleagues the Cave Rescue Organisation from Clapham, we stretchered the injured mountain biker to the air ambulance were he was then flown into the trauma unit at Preston Royal Infirmary.

We thank our colleagues and neighbours the Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) for helping and assisting today, with the peak holiday season still with us our number were low.

Post incident – Our casualty has had a 4 hour operation and is now recovering in hospital, we wish him a speedy and healthy recovery.
