Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team, runs a fleet of four Landrover ambulances, Trough 1 Zero and Trough 4 Zero, stationed at our main base is in Garsrtang. Trough 2 Zero and Trough 7 Zero are based at our southern end of the area in Penwortham, Preston. Trough 3 Zero is within the Trough of Bowland at our outward bound and Training centre in Dunsop Bridge. We also have a mobile incident control vehicle and a mini-bus for troop movement are these are located at our vehicle and training base in Garstang.
All our team vehicles have an active service life span of about 15 years where possible. This depends on funding and donations. Currently Trough 7 Zero is the oldest vehicle and due to be replaced when we have the funding in place.

Trough 1 Zero is the newest vehicle in the fleet and is based at Garstang. It was purchased with funding that was provided by various generous individuals and organisations in Lancashire. Trough 1 Zero entered service in 2018.
Trough 1 Zero has been specially modified for Mountain Rescue service and can carry five team members as well as their personal equipment. This vehicle also carries the bulk of our equipment including a stretcher, a full crag rescue kit, vacuum mattress, scene lighting and advanced first aid equipment.
Trough 2 Zero is based at St Mary’s Health Center in Penwortham. This vehicle has also been specially converted for Mountain Rescue service and carries up to five team members with their personal equipment. As this vehicle is based in Penwortham, it generally serves the southern partof our operational area.
For added safety and stability, Trough 2 Zero is fitted with heavy duty, anti-roll bars to improve the ride quality when fully loaded and proceeding to an incident.
Trough 2 Zero also has been specially modified for Mountain Rescue service and can carry five team members as well as their personal equipment. This vehicle also carries the bulk of our equipment including a stretcher, a full crag rescue kit, vacuum mattress, scene lighting and advanced first aid equipment.

Trough 3 Zero is our oldest front line response vehicle and is based at our training and headquarters building Smelt Mill just outside Dunsop Bridge. This Team vehicle is also specially modified for Mountain Rescue service and can carry five team members as well as their personal equipment. This vehicle also carries the bulk of our equipment including a stretcher, a full crag rescue kit, vacuum mattress, scene lighting and advanced first aid equipment.

Trough 4 Zero is our main rope rescue and crag support vehicle and has recently been bought during 2020 with the generous donation of £20,000 from the Morrison Foundation. This vehicle carries all our specialist rope rescue hardware and ropes that are used throughout the year during incidents and training.
The vehicle has 5 seats and can carry 5 Team members when it is needed to do so’, it is also fitted with a mountain rescue Team radio.
Trough 5 Zero is our mobile Incident Control vehicle which has all our base radio and IT equipment for use in our search incidents. It has been specially fitted out to cope with the demands of various mountain rescue work but in particular search. When deployed it hosts our search tools, mountain rescue mapping and various radio sets so we can communicate with our partners and our own Team members.
The vehicle is fitted with Wi-fi and a printer, along with administration facilities this vehicle is virtually indispensable considering our very large operational area when it comes to search operations and incidents.
This important vehicle is aging and is our oldest vehicle in the fleet so it is planned to be replaced within the next 3 -5 years, if you can help us with either funds or equipment forthis much needed project please contact our Team Leader tl@bpmrt.org.uk
Trough 7 Zero is our oldest vehicle, a Landrover 90 SWB which was initially donated to our rescue team by Lancashire Police many years in recognition of our increasing search work in partnership with them. This vehicle, with over 100,00 miles on the clock has minimum rescue and medical equipment on board but serves us well when it is deployed.
Ideally, we need to replace the vehicle, however the Landrover lovers of the rescue won’t let it go as it is reliable and sound when on operations!
Trough 6 Zero is our team mini bus and is used as troop transport during search operations and events such as supporting fell races. This invaluable vehicle is now nearly 10 years old and could probably due to be replaced with a more modern vehicle type.
Yes, the rescue team has 4 mountain bikes to assist with searches, they are particularly useful when we need to search canal paths quickly or search forests such as Gisburn when the mountain bike trails are regularly used.
